Early WW2 Aluminium British Mess Tins
Lads,
I will attach some images (or links to them) but just to illustrate the differences...
The details of the early mess tins are outlined in the uniform regulations for the trip...
The early British mess tins were only produced in 1938 and 1939... They are very much like the modern aluminium ones expect they are more rectangular... The corners are less rounded...
These can still be found but are going up in price... The last set sold by Sentimental Joyney went for £35 I think...
The WW2 Canadian ones were the same construction... But they are stamped up differently... Often 'GAL'HOIR LEVIS Q' which was a Quebec based manufacturer...

I've spent ages trying to get some images to link into this bloody forum. What a pile of crap!

I hope you get it sorted, I'd be interested in seeing what to look out for.

Is this an essential item then? As they are getting harder to find and when they do come up they do go for allot of money! I can see bidding wars from members on here if we're all looking for the same thing! Shame no one reproduces these....

No Sam... Not essential. They do come up though so keep an eye out. They show up in the oddest of places. A standard set of aluminium ones will have to do... Or as I say, look out for Canadian ones...

Have a look at CS MILITARIA...
http://www.csmilitaria.co.uk/shop.php
There's a nice 1938 single mess tin going for... Wait for it... £55

What's bothering me more than finding a set of these is that a related topic to this thread at the bottom of the forum page is "my Penis is a mess".

If it is then I'm ok for the trip haha!
I will keep an eye out for a set. I have been on the look out for some time but find them going for prices such as what you put above but with getting other kit I have not been able to warrant paying that kind of price!
Thanks
Sam

As long as I don't find one in my stew. The set I have is dated 1941 but if I'm able to find a set dated 38 or 39 I will get them. I didn't even use them last time.
