Repro Light Khaki WW1 Style Felt Water Bottle Covers

Post by TubbyBinns on Tue Mar 04, 2014 11:32 am

Lads - Military History Workshop (MHW) show as OUT OF STOCK for water bottles (MKVI in blue with light WW1 felt covers)... However, if you just need to re-cover your blue bottle with a light felt cover, they'll do the felt cover on its own for £9.50...

Here's a link to the product which is the full water bottle.

If you ask the about the covers via email to:

kev@militaryhistoryworkshop.co.uk

They're helpful and accommodating.

I think it's Military History Workshop.

I got a new stock email from WPG yesterday showing a repro MkVI water bottle. I can't post a link yet, but you can find it if you put 5479 into the search field on their website.

Is this any good?

If these aren't good enough, are there any other options for repro covers? I'm thinking of re-covering an RAF water bottle if there are, and if not, just buying one of WPG's water bottles.

I've not seen the WPG ones... Has anyone else? Pete Knight said they were fine and I'll take that as an indication they are indeed fine... Are they 'light brown felt' though?

Simon Moore has indicated that the ACI that introduced the darker greenish felt covers (as used throughout WW2) was 1933 or so and that we need not worry about the earlier light water bottle covers... Although we certainly need blue water bottles... As the green ones would not have been in circulation pre Dunkirk...

Is my idea of using an RAF bottle okay?

Blue enamel is blue enamel, it's the cover that counts
