Hello Deebo - I've created the uniform guide... I'll be posting it as soon as I can figure out how to on this forum system...!

I'm proposing that where possible, we attend as a single unit to give slightly more cohesion. In the past, there have been no such restrictions other than portrayals of British BD wearing units who were actually there.

In reality, there was next to no unit insignia at the time as much of the first war and pre-WW2 insignia had been eradicated by introduction of the new BD in the late 1930s... So in many regards, the only thing to tell people apart would be the cap badge on their FS caps.

Some units were using khaki slip on titles for the epaulettes...

There would have been groups of stragglers everywhere in the retreat... but I think it might be more realistic to have a bulk of infantry troops from a single unit with one or two stragglers from the likes of the Royal Engineers (or whatever) or another infantry unit...

Anyway, as such, I'll be going as 2nd Battalion Wiltshires, 13th Infantry Brigade, 5th Infantry Division. I'm not from Wiltshire. I've no local ties. I'm originally a Geordie who now lives in Sussex! I've just picked the WILTS because that's the unit John Mills is with in the 1958 film Dunkirk before he and a few other lads under the command of Mr Lumpkin are left to demolish the road bridge... they only become separated because the unit pulls out. The lorry is left behind for them but is knocked out by the German plane...

Anyway, I digress...

Lads - The repro gas mask bag offered by SOF is a MKV and not a MKVI... This is fine... Feel free to use a MKV, MKVC or a MKVI...

Kind regards,

Pete

Get yourself to some fairs and have a hunt around first... Yes the SOF ones are repros...

The originals are far from impossible to find...

might sound a silly question and might not matter either way,but would 1940 dated helmets have been issued or would of they have been 1939? I know there the same helmet except the date but would 1940 have made it over before the evacuation

The date in a helmet will not matter if it has the correct appearance as outlined in the regs...

Verne - PM me you email address for the uniform regs. For some reason I can't find how to post PDFs on here...

Hi Pete. The system won't let me post external links for 7 days, so hopefully you can decipher this. tottspurs10 at peoplepc dot com. Leave out the spaces, put the at symbol in, and substitute for the dot. BTW, where in Brighton do you live? That's where I'm from.

I understand the regulations are done now but one quick thing on kit and something I've noticed a lot of BEF re-enactors doing, water bottle carriers with the press stud to the front.

As I understand it this stems from a photo in 'The World War II Tommy', the photograph in question uses a naval 1919 pattern carrier in error, SoF are even reproducing them now, this is wrong, British made and issued 1937 pattern skeleton bottle carriers always had the press stud closure on two short straps meeting on the shoulder of the bottle (excluding 1950s examples with buckles in place but that's irrelevant to us.)
